I absolutely hate it when my someone says that a food is his "most favorite." Just say "favorite." Adding "most" to it is completely unnecessary, and makes you sound stupid.

"Jerusalem was destroyed in 587 BC." And maybe include an email address to some respected archaeological website to back up the date.
Keep it short and simple.

THE FLOOD - What's Jehovah's problem now?
by sizemik inthis question has been bugging me for a while now .
since the last thread on the biblical flood.. it's like this .
.. immediately prior to the flood, jehovah had deemed the earth full of badness, totally wicked and "ruined" .

"I know that the society's idea is enough time had to elapse to prove that mankind was not able to govern on their own without God's input.
I've never seen that idea in the Bible though.
Even if you accept that idea, there's so many contradictions since if you believe the Bible, God never stops intervening.
Adam & Eve disobey & God says "you're on your own, see if you can do better"
God then springs into leaving them alone by kicking them out of the Garden of Eden, giving them a death sentence, cursing the ground and making childbirth more painful.
God further leaves them alone by letting his rebelious angelic sons prey upon them.
Continues leaving them alone by killing 99.9% of them in a global flood.
Ignors them completely by confusing their languages at Babel.
etc etc etc.
Job proved imperfect people could be faithful to God. Jesus proved perfect people could be faithful. What is the point of allowing another 2000 years of death & pain if the 'issue' has already been solved?
There are so many holes in JW theology, as a born in I'm ashamed of not seeing them earlier."
I remember, as a teenager, having these exact same thoughts. I'd also add: God leaving man alone, when he "hardened" the heart of the Pharoh against the Israelites. My conclusion at the time: God was evil. I thought that the Witnessess were just doing what God wanted them to do, and I didn't view them as evil. I would often fantasize about technology and science advancing to the point where we would discover what God actually is. And then figure out a way to kill the murdering son of a bitch. I felt this way for years. It lead me to feel uterlly hopeless about my future. (I viewed myself as wicked because I couldn't stop watching porn and wanking.) That nothing I could acomplish in life would matter. That it would all just be erased and forgotten during the 1000 year reign.
About a year and two months ago, I finally got the courage to Google Jehovah's Witnessess. Now, I view the bOrg as a destructive mind control cult. And if God even exists, I'm 100 percent sure, that he's not the vindictive, petty, chaotic, angry, murderous, fictional, god of the bible.
As a teenager, I always thought that the flood should have settled the issue of god's soveregnty. The whole "second fullfillment" thing always seemed unneccessary to me.

"The faithful and discreet slave while at times mistaken, clearly outline the criteria for the conclusions they reached while conducting diligent research."
"After 1925, the Watchtower Society had a clearer vision of the future. If some opposers chose to pick apart their research prior to 1925 for inconstancies; knock yourselves out. Sincere truth seekers can see through your unreasonable antics."
Couldn't people say the same things about Harold Camping's Family Radio, a couple of decades from now? 40 years from now someone will be pointing out to a Family Radio follower that the founder of their religion/cult falsely predicted the end of the world in 2011. They will respond with the following:
"You're quoting from information published early in the 21st century when Family Radio was in its early developmental stages."
"Family Radio while at times mistaken, clearly outine the criteria for the conclusions they reached while conducting diligent research."
"After 2011, Family Radio had a clearer vision of the future. If some opposers chose to pick apart their research prior to 2011 for inconsistencies, knock yourselves out. Sincere truth seekers can see through your unreasonable antics."
Maze, would you consider people who follow Harold Camping, to be "sincere truth seekers?" Harold Camping says that all churches have become Apostate, and thus must be abandoned. He believes that sinners are destroyed, or cease to exist, rather than be tormented in hell. He also encourages personal Bible study. Harold Camping's followers have reached an incredible amount of people with their message/preaching work; using billboards, busses, radio, etc. What if Harold Camping is the faithful and discrete slave, and not the Watchtower? (Side Note: I don't really beleve that. Harold Camping is a charismatic cult leader.)
Or do you choose to laugh at Harold Camping and his predictions? Because I see a lot of similarities between Harold Camping and the early history of the Witnessess. Neither of them is guided by Jehovah; and Jehovah isn't speaking through either of them. They are both cults that falsely predicted the end of the world. One cult is just newer than the other.

Has anyone tried tactics from"Captives of a Concept"?
by Coffee House Girl injust read don cameron's book...which was very en-light-ening (sorry for the "new light" pun)....and i agree with many of cameron's points about how to reason with a jw but i am curious..... have any of you out there in jwn land ever tried to have a witness come to your door, pretend to have a bible study & get the jw in a "teacher" setting where they have to research for you the history of jw's in the time of 1919????.
were you successful?
did it not work out?.

Cantleave: "Is Saul our very own DJeggnog per chance?
It's funny you ask that. I've wondered the same thing. Although my brother would never be a DJ. He only likes Classical music. He has said numerous times that anyone who prefers rock/rap/country/etc. over classical music, is too stupid to appreciate classical music. Then again, he could be using the name DJ, to throw people off who know him.
He only ever admitted to going onto a Creationist vs. Atheist forum. He never admitted to debating on apostate webstites. Then again, who knows? It would be funny if DJeggnog is my brother. His personality fits him to a tee: arrogant, condicending, long winded, dismissive of other peoples' ideas and beliefs.
Thanks for the welcome Wobble. I only typed a very abridged version of the epic battle I had with my brother. If you'd like to see the full conversation, head on over to JehovahsWitnessRecovery.com and read these 2 threads of mine:

I've used the tactics from Captives of a Concept on my extremely arrogant brother Saul. I told him that it doesn't matter what the Witnesses teach today; only what they taught in 1919. I told him about all the wrong teachings the Witnesses had back then. And that Jesus would never have selected an organization preaching lies as the Faithful and Discreet Slave. His response: They are imperfect men. And the light gets brighter.
I mentioned the flip flop on who the "Superior Authorities" were. I told him the light didn't get brighter; it flickered on and off. His response: They are imperfect men. And what else is there? I told him that God wouldn't allow his chosen organization to publish lies in his name. That the only imperfections the GB would have, would be in their personal lives; not the information that they claim to get from divine inpiration.
Nothing fazed him. Saul thinks he's smarter than other witnesses and likes to go on religious discussion boards and "debunk" their beliefs. I told him he's not supposed to be doing that. He feels that it's okay for him to do it because he so smart. He's even read "Combating Cult Mind Control" and doesn't think his religion is a cult. He thinks that any similarities with a cult, are "neccessary to keep God's people clean."
I also discussed the book "Crisis of Conscience" with Saul. He was already aware of it. He didn't dispute any of the facts in the book. But once again, said, "What else is there. They are imperfect men. And New Light!" He prides himself on his logic, but he is a moron.
I had this conversation with him back in March of 2010. Even though I'm not baptized, my family has shunned me since that conversation and labeled me an Apostate.
So, no. For me, and my family, Captives of a Concept didn't work. And neither did Combating Cult Mind Control, nor Crisis of Conscience. I could have a video of the Governing Body killing and eating babies, and they would be able to explain it away as "imperfect men."

Talesin,
You don't need tech support to figure out computer problems. If I encounter a computer problem, I always do the following: Google my problem or error mesage to see if anyone else found a solution to the problem. If that doesn't work, I find a tech related forum (like the websites TomsHardware and AVSforum), and post my problem there and ask for help. When asking for help on a forum, list your computer's specifications, and then describe your problem in great detail. If the first 2 steps don't work, then format your hard and re-install the operating system. But you already knew that last step.
Nortorn And McAfee are garbage. I hate how companies like Dell and HP put so much bloat-ware on their computers. I prefer to build my coputer from parts bought off of Newegg. I then install Windows 7, and only the programs that I want on there. No free trials of anything.
For anti-virus protection, I would strongly recomend that you download and install "Microsoft Security Essentialls." It's a free anti-virus software from Microsoft. It uses very little resources to run. It's updated pretty regularlly. And its effective at what it's supposed to do. As long as you have a registered legitimate version (not stolen) of Windows XP, Vista, or 7, than you can download it for free from Microsoft. And its free forever; not some 90 day trial. And there's only 1 version of the program. There's no paid version of it.
Computers can be frustrating, but there's free help out there, you just have to know where to look.

James, are you the James Woods that I see in movies. Or are you the evil James Woods from Family Guy. (If you've never seen the cartoon, Family Guy, I mean this as a light hearted joke.)

Greetings. I am an ocassional poster at Jehovah's Witness Recovery. I'm also an unzaptized Super Apostate. (My super powers are my belief in Facts, not Fantasy, and no longer suffering from Cognitive Dissonence.) At some point, I'll probably post my whole story. But for now, if you want to read it, just head over to Jehovah's Witness Recovery, and search for me by my username, and read the first couple threads I started. (I also go by the name Anime Nerd over there too.)
I feel like JWR is a better place to recover from being a dub, than jwnet is. They're more helpful and sympathetic over there. (You guys don't recoment "Crisis of Conscience" and "Combating Cult Mind Control" often enough to new people.) Some of the people on this site seem rude and flippant towards people's obvious needs for help and sympathy. I'm also kind of surprized to see the occasional, hardcore, still drinking the Kool-aid, argumentive, dub posting on here. But for the most part, you guys on jwnet seem decent. My one complaint about JWR, is how little activity it has compared to this site. So after you recover from being a Borg, you find that JWR doesn't have much exciting stuff going on. By comparsion, jwnet is like the wild west of ex-jw sites. There's some really interesting and funny threads on this forum. And there's always activity on here. So I decided to start lurking and occasionally posting on here, in addition to JWR. (Side Note: jwnet really needs a "Preview Post" button. "Submit" and "Cancel" are not enough.)
The following thread, I coppied from myself on JWR, and I'm also posting it over here:
I frequent another website, called avsforum.com. It's a forum for tech related discussions like: building a Home Theater PC, choosing the right speakers, buying the right TV, etc. On their home page, they'll occasionally have reviews for recently released movies. One of the recent movie releases was for some lame looking horror movie, called "The Inheritance." Lee Weber, one of the two movie reviewers on avsforum, wrote the following in his review:
When five thirty-something cousins are invited to claim their part of the family inheritance, they are greeted by Uncle Melvin (Keith David) and a few other 'elders', who warn them to respect their family traditions. --Note to self: Any group of older people who act weird and refer to themselves as 'The Elders' are sure to have some weird voodoo or satanic cultish stuff under their sleeves. After a night of partying they are awoken by the elders, and summoned to a morning meeting that morphs into ceremony of tradition as the elders tell them a dark story from the past. What seemed to take ten minutes actually took many hours, and the cousins journey to the darkest of family secrets is on its way. Only too late do they realize these secrets of their slave ancestors past hold a dark debt they must pay in blood to maintain the legacy of their family.
These are his exact words, copy and pasted from avsforum to here. My only alterations were to underline and bold a few words and phrases to highlight them. I haven't seen this movie, but I find this portion of the review for it unintentionally amusing. Here is the full review if you're interested: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1327669 (Just copy and paste the url into your browser.) Without having seen the story, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the bad guys are The Elders. Awesome. If this is the case, the screen writer couldn't have chosen a more deserving group to be villains in a movie. I love that he uses the word "cultish," when refering to the elders.
So after a night of partying, the group is summoned to a "morning meeting." Somehow, I think there'll be a Special Needs talk about the inherent dangers of partying. The reviewer also says that instead of "taking ten minutes actually took many hours." Instead of a morning meeting, maybe it was actually a Judicial Committee Hearing. That could easily last hours. When I saw the phrase, "slave ancestors past," I thought, "Oh. They're 3rd or 4th generation Witnesses."
And then we come to the final phrase: "a dark debt they must pay in blood to maintain the legacy of their family." This made me think of all the Borg members that have pointlessly sacrificed themselves and their family members because they couldn't take blood transfusions.
I wonder if the reviewer of this movie is an ex-jw, or if all these words and phrases are just a weird coincidence.
